Social Engagement and Interaction

Social Engagement and Interaction

Toys that will successfully move children in the desired direction begin by appealing to what already engages and motivates them, and then allows them to take small steps toward more meaningful interactions. Look for toys that are simple enough for them to enjoy, provide the type and amount of sensory input they prefer, reinforce the desired skills in a relaxed setting and provide activities that model and reinforce successful behaviors. Toys that develop social engagement and interaction skills include those that children can engage with both alone and with a partner, promote turn taking and cooperation, allow opportunities for imitation or provide a certain amount of predictability or familiarity.
